The benefits and advantages of Low Density Open Cell Insulation

Unlike its predecessor, polyurethane insulation Closed Cell Rigid foam, low density is the perfect, most up to date insulation for the home that money can buy.

To explain to you very simply why it’s so much more versatile than its older brother we start with its suitability. In the domestic home it’s ideal for the following.

Loft Insulation

Low density open cell is an air tight but breathable product which is applied directly onto a breathable membrane under the eaves of your roof space. It is NOT applied to the tiles or slates directly under any circumstances.

If your membrane is badly damaged or missing we will fit a brand new breathable membrane between the rafters prior to installing the insulation. That way there is separation between the tiles/slates and the low density foam.

In the case of close boarding that is found in certain areas of the U.K. the product can be applied directly onto it. Because you still have the separation between roof substrate and new product. Due of its disposition low density has lots and lots of open molecules in its make up. This means like human skin it’s breathable but airtight.

It’s spongy and squeezable before returning to form. This means you can pull it apart with your hands. Of course you can’t do this with closed cell. So typically with traditional fibreglass and mineral wool that’s been used since the late 1940s, low density creates a warm roof not a cold roof. So no frozen tanks and pipes. A loft that’s cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Once the temperature reaches a certain level in the property, because the air leakage has been eliminated, it retains its heat, accordingly your thermostat can be turned down to a much lower level.

According to The Independent Energy Consulting Group, bills can be cut by up to 45% per annum. On top of this you're doing your bit for the environment, low density insulation has a Global Warming potential of 1 out of a possible 100. The system will last you for life and will come with a manufacturer warranty for 25 years.

As well as all these benefits you've got a clean usable loft space without a sea of insulation that’s itchy, dirty and in large parts inefficient.

Stud Walls and Sloping Ceilings

Low density open cell thermal insulation is excellent for retrofits in older properties where there is an absence of insulation. Lots of properties built prior to the early 2000's were not insulated at all or inadequately. We can retrofit our systems by injection or cutting small strips out of the surface and replacing and plastering afterwards.

Not only will this method improve your thermal footprint and Energy Proficiency Certificate (EPC), it will make your home a quieter and therefore more comfortable environment.

All in all Sprayfoam contractors offer these complete services anywhere in the U.K.. Whether you're in Lands End or John O'Groats we can accommodate you AND more importantly deliver at a reasonable price beating any genuine quote.
